June volunteer opportunities: fishing, parade

June 1, 2009, Fishing with Project COMPASS at Prairie Island
This is an annual event cosponsored by the Friends and the Refuge. This year there are 65 people signed-up to go fishing with us. If you can help cook/serve food, bait hooks or take off fish, please join us from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please contact Brian Pember at 494-6237 if you have questions and/or to let him know you will be helping.

June 10, 2009, Fishing with Project COMPASS at Lake Winona
This is a quick fishing trip to get people outside. The fishing trip starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 7:45 p.m. You will be asked to bait hooks and take off fish. Participants meet at the Huff Street Information Center. Please contact Brian Pember at 494-6237 if you have questions and/or to let him know you will be helping.

June 21, 2009, Winona Steamboat Days Parade
The refuge will be show casing the 85th birthday of the Refuge on their float this year (the refuge's birthday is June 7). Friends are welcome to ride-along on the refuge float and if anyone would like to design something specifically for the Friends group, they are welcome to include it with the refuge floats. Please contact Brian Pember at 494-6237 if you have questions and/or to let him know you would like to be in the parade with the refuge.
